Class Schedule for August through December 2010

Please register for class as early as possible. Payment is due at the time of registration and may be made in person or by calling the shop. As a courtesy to our teachers, you may cancel your enrollment for a full refund or store credit no later than two business days prior to the class. Special events require a two week cancellation notice for a refund or credit. If minimum enrollment for a class is not met, we will cancel that class as early as one week prior to its starting date, and a full refund will be issued.

Sewing Classes

AUGUST

Easy Zippers, Islander Sewing System (Taught by Barbara Cruse)

Put the ZIP in zippers with these fast and easy methods to insert any machine stitched zipper. Barbara Cruse, a certified Islander Sewing System Instructor, will take you step-by-step through inserting 5 zippers using different techniques, all without pins or basting!

Friday, August 20^th

Adult Beginning Sewing I (Taught by Barbara Cruse)

In this class we will cover beginning sewing skills: taking measurements (for a woman), simple adjustments to the pattern, layout, construction, and finishing techniques. We will work on basic, simple fitting skills; especially for those who have problems with fitting comfortably. We will touch on some fabrics and interfacing, what and why. Along the way you will learn how to use your machine, feet, machine needles, and easy tips that make the difference between loving hands and ready- to- wear. Pattern is Kwik Sew 3003 A-line skirt and knit top.

Pant Drafting (Taught by Barbara Cruse)

Ready for the perfect fit? Then come and learn how to draft the perfect pants for you. Take detailed measurements and draft a fitted pair of pants. This is you as a flat pattern. You will make a muslin and then fine tune your pattern.

Galaxy of Sewing (Taught by Barbara Cruse)

Learn the inside secrets of setting in high cap sleeves with ease; sleeve heads and custom shoulder pads; bound buttonholes, each one the same; welt pockets; and perfect corded loop closures.

Sewing Fundamentals (Taught by Shaquandra Cooper)

You will learn seam allowances, different hems and finishes, and how to set a zipper. You will also learn how to use a basic pattern to make the hottest form-fitting skirt as a final project.

Kids’ Pajama Party Class (Taught by Luevonia Hammons)

Come join the party!! The Mother/Daughter pajama party class. In this intermediate level class we will make a pillowcase the first day and pajama bottoms the second day.

Introduction to Textiles – From Fiber to Fabric (Taught by Beverly Gatterson)

This class will explore the exciting world of textile fibers, their origins, uses, and varieties. The course will also examine the process of creating fabrics – from fibers to finishing – and how to determine the quality of various popular fabrics. Come prepared to have fun and experience the exciting world of textiles.

Sew/Serger Club (Taught by Barbara Cruse)

This club meets the first Thursday of each month. The class rotates from sewing machine to serger each month. There is a project each month, and the kit fees will vary from month to month. The instructor will inform the you at the end of each meeting as to what the next month’s project will be so that you can bring the correct machine.

OCTOBER

Adult Beginning Sewing II (Taught by Barbara Cruse)

Learn how to measure, adjust, and make a simple pair of pants or shorts. These are easy-fit with a zipper closure. To get the right length, waist, and hips to fit is fantastic. You’ll want to make more, and with some easy changes you can get a different look too.

Fitted Blouse/Shirt (Taught by Barbara Cruse)

Do you love the look of a classic shirt? Do you find it difficult to find one that fits or in the fabric/color you want? Join Barbara as she takes you through making a lady’s fitted shirt using the techniques from Industrial Shortcuts. You will learn how to change your pattern for shortcuts, some quick fitting, and pattern alterations for a beautiful fit. For those wanting to make the sheer version, you will also learn how to make fine French seams. For the first class you do not need your sewing machine. Pre-requisite (strongly recommended as those will be the techniques used) is the Industrial Shortcuts class.

Home School Sewing Class (Taught by Barbara Cruse)

In this class students will learn sewing skills. They will make both garment and craft items. For the beginners they will work on simpler designs, and as students advance they will be able to select more challenging designs. Students, as a class, will work on a similar theme. **Each student is responsible for their own supplies.**

Sewing Clothes for Children – Dress or Shirt (Taught by Barbara Cruse)

In this class you will learn techniques for making small items with professional results. Barbara will show you how to make baby piping and attach it with ease, along with ruffles, facings, and how to press tiny areas. You may choose a dress for a girl or a shirt for a boy. KWIK SEW 3500 for girl’s dress or KWIK SEW 3730 for boy’s shirt.

Class will cover adjusting pattern for a great looking fit, and easy lining techniques. Kwik Sew pattern 3715 for Misses, and 3483 for Women’s sizes.
